Studio Radiaal, het interdisciplinaire collectief van Jasmijn Lootens (cello, elektronica), Michaël Verlinden (piano, elektronica), Jeroen Cluckers (videokunst, film), A. De Causmaecker (ruimte) en Maarten Craeynest (muziektechnologie), onderzoekt in het project ‘Form a Line into a Circle’ hoe de lineariteit van de eigen disciplines doorbroken kan worden in een immersieve live performance. Via de spanningsvelden akoestisch/elektronisch, analoog/digitaal, figuratie/abstractie en realiteit/virtualiteit zoekt dit collectief naar parameters om de verschillende media symbiotisch te verbinden. De lijn staat daarbij symbool voor de grenzen die zich aftekenen rond iedere discipline. De cirkel is het streefdoel: vanuit de traditie van het Gesamtkunstwerk en de notie ‘expanded cinema’ streeft Studio Radiaal naar een totaalervaring die de grenzen tussen akoestische en elektronische muziek, live performance, ruimte, film en videokunst aftast en transformeert. Daarnaast is deze metafoor ook filosofisch: via tijd als centrale auditieve en visuele dimensie, exploreren zij inter- en transdisciplinaire methodes om lineaire tijd om te buigen en innovatieve mogelijkheden tot innerlijke, onderdompelende tijdsbeleving in kaart te brengen. Dit onderzoeksproject wordt ondersteund door MAXlab (KASK Antwerpen – AP Hogeschool), Immersive Lab (AP Hogeschool), LUCA School of Arts/KU Leuven, docARTES (Orpheus Instituut), en ChampdAction via een tweejarige residentie.

Studio Radiaal, the interdisciplinary collective of Jasmijn Lootens (cello, electronics), Michaël Verlinden (piano, electronics), Jeroen Cluckers (video, film), A. De Causmaecker (space) and Maarten Craeynest (music technology), researches in the project ‘Form a Line into a Circle’ how to breach the linearity of the different disciplines in an immersive live performance. Through the areas acoustic/electronic, analogue/digital, figuration/abstraction and reality/virtuality, this collective searches for parameters to symbiotically connect its media. The line symbolizes the borders limiting each discipline. The circle is the target: from the tradition of the Gesamtkunstwerk and the notion ‘expanded cinema’, Studio Radiaal strives to create a total experience, sensing and transforming the boundaries between acoustic and electronic music, live performance, space, video art and film. This metaphor is also philosophical: using time as a central aural and visual dimension, the artists explore inter- and transdisciplinary methods to bend linear time, mapping innovative possibilities to establish internal, immersive experiences of time.
